THE DEDICATION OF THE NEW YORK LIONS ADAPTIVE BLIND BASEBALL TEAM AND THE SUPPORT AND FUNDRAISING CAMPAIGN OF THE FINANCIAL DISTRICT LIONS CLUB HAS ENABLED THE UNITED STATES WINNING THE FIRST BRONZE MEDAL AND GET ONE STEP CLOSER TO COMPETE IN THE PARALYMPICS.

NEW YORK LIONS BLIND BASEBALL TEAM

Representing Team USA on the Global Stage the best team players represented the United States at the First WBSC Blind Baseball International Cup in the Netherlands. To assemble the best possible roster, players were selected by expert AIBxC coaches from Italy who came to New York to select the best players. : Eva Trevisan and Priscilla Brondi.

Together with the Lions players were selected 3 eployees from the Lighthouse Guild who had learned this form of baseball in 2015 when coaches from Italy came to New York to introduce the adapted American baseball.

Thanks to the steadfast leadership and support of the Financial DIstrict Lions Club—which launched a dedicated fundraising campaign—alongside the generosity of our donors and sponsors, these men and women were able to travel and compete in this historic first grand tournament for the blind and visually impaired.

Our History & Growth

The roots of this program trace back to 2015, when coaches from Italy came to New York to introduce the sport. Landolphi got involved as well  Ed Plumacher  employee of Lighthouse learned the sport and also members of the New York Lions and other blind and visually impaired individuals who gathered in the park to play. These passionate pioneers called themselves the "New York Bashers".

While individuals had been showing up in New York parks to play since 2015, it was not until the Lions stepped in that the first official league was formed in the United States, composed of Financial District Lions Club members.

With the continued support of the Lions, more teams are expected to be formed across the USA and in communities worldwide where Lions maintain a presence.
